HENRIK ELLERBÆK A/S IS A DANISH COMPANY THAT PRODUCES TECHNICAL TEXTILES
About Henrik Ellerbæk
Henrik Ellerbæk A/S is a Danish company that produces technical textile fabrics, such as fabrics for industrial use, for the care and health sector, clothing and safety equipment and fashion. Approx. 90% of Henrik Ellerbæk's production is located in Denmark, and in total 95% of our production takes place in the EU, which means that we have a greater opportunity to control production conditions ourselves and the opportunity to exercise control in relation to social and environmental factors. The dyehouse that we use is located in Denmark and is – as the only dyehouse in Denmark – certified according to the Nordic Swan criteria.
As a company that produces and develops in Denmark, we have a number of advantages. For example, we benefit from a large amount of wind turbine power in our sockets (43.6% in 2021). In addition, our heating stems from biomass-based district heating. We also benefit from the working in a country with a strong tradition for a good working environment and safe and healthy working conditions, which is highly important to Ellerbæk.
Commitment to accountability and sustainability
Henrik Ellerbæk A/S is committed to – vis-à-vis our stakeholders, i.e., our customers, consumers, employees, suppliers, and society as a whole – exercise due diligence and comply with local and international laws, rules, and conventions. We are committed to reduce the negative impact we have in connection with our business operations and at the same time seek to optimize our positive impact.
This commitment also includes a commitment to social responsibility. We respect the fundamental human rights and act within the framework of local and international laws and rules. We value and respect different cultural backgrounds and traditions, and we do not tolerate discrimination.
We work to ensure that our business does not have a negative impact on human rights. Specifically, this means that all our business partners to commit to our Supplier Code of Conduct, or a comparable Code, and the standards it defines in relation to working conditions, environment, climate, etc. We make use of a few suppliers, who all with a few exceptions are based in Europe. These are all suppliers with whom we have a close and long-term collaboration.
Henrik Ellerbæk A/S encourages and promotes timely and honest communication. We will promote sincere and free discussion about any issue that may arise as well as play an active role in resolving these. We will follow the developments that are taking place in our surrounding world and adapt our business accordingly.
In connection with dyeing, we also use a nearby, advanced dyeing, which since 1978 has worked with among other environmental improvements, energy optimization and reduction of water consumption by wet treatment. Click here for more information.
Sustainable Development Goals
SDG 6 CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION (SDG 6.3)
Our own factory has no wastewater. The dye house we use holds the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. From our own factory we have no wastewater. Our dye house is certified according to the standards of the Nordic Swan. Only carefully selected dyes that are free of harmful chemicals and that are approved by the Nordic Swan are used. There is no use of heavy metals in our production.
SDG 7 AFFORDABLE CLEAN ENERGY (SDG 7.2, 7.3)
In 2022, we have mapped our energy consumption and based on the mapping, we have identified two initiatives that we currently are exploring, and which will support our path towards reducing our CO2 emissions significantly. We are exploring the possibility of establishing solar panels that will partially cover our electricity needs.
SDG 12 RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION (SDG 12.2 12.4)
While our production produces very limited waste, we are currently exploring how we can sell the cuts that we have from the treatment at the dyehouse. All our waste at the factory is sorted and sent for recycling.
We have no harmful emissions of environmentally hazardous substances from our own factory. Our dye house is certified according to the standards of the Nordic Swan. Only carefully selected dyes that are free of harmful chemicals and that are approved by the Nordic Swan are used. There is no use of heavy metals in our production.
Reducing the use of harmful substances is another key focus area for us. We are Oeko-Tex certified in the textile qualities polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene, and being trained in DS / ISO 9001 and DS / EN ISO 14001, it is only natural that we follow these management systems within quality and environmental management.
We also produce substances that are in contact with food, so therefore we have annual inspections from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration "Registered with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration".
